Transcript functions no longer work #2

- Turn transcript on in a game.
- Enter commands with more than a single letter.
- Turn off transcript.
- Review output.  Letters are displayed in a weird way.  The echo_stream
functions must be broken somehow.

Fixed in rev22: only ASCII characters are written to files now.
