the instance just showed a generic wordpress install. no cms, just wordpress

what do you mean? wordpress is a CMS, acore-cms includes different plugins and scripts that allow to use wordpress and azerothcore. For example, when you configure everything and register an account on wordpress you'll create automatically a game account in the azerothcore server.
