Here's the official report from Microsoft:

Classic resource providers that use Azure Service Manager (classic deployment model) will be retired on 31 August 2024.> Before the retirement date, you'll need to migrate your classic resource provider that uses classic deployment model (ASM) to Azure Resource Manager, which provides the same capabilities as classic and additionally offers the following benefits:

  • Simplified resource deployment with a management layer that enables you to create, update, and delete Azure resources.
  • Resource grouping, which allows you to deploy, monitor, manage, and apply access control policies to resources as a group.

Impact

Azure classic resource providers are retiring on August 31st, 2024 and migration to Azure Resource Manager is required.

Here's the official report from Microsoft:

Your access to the classic resource provider’s endpoint will be revoked and the resource provider will be disabled on 31 August 2024.

  • To take advantage of advanced capabilities offered by Azure Resource Manager and avoid service disruptions, migrate your resources that use Classic (ASM) to Azure Resource Manager by 31 August 2024.

  • Additionally, to manage service expectations of your classic resource provider, notify your end customers and coordinate with them for completing migration before the retirement date of 31 August 2024.
