Irritating behaviour when switching / choosing data folder #2

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Choose a valid data folder
2. Try switching the folder and abort
3. application exits with the assumption that no data folder can be found

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

* Revert to using the old data folder

Please use labels and text to provide additional information.

* Additionally the message when first starting the application could be 
improved upon
