Listening to Gergely Orosz's AMA, he had a rating system at the bottom of his articles/newsletter to experiment with what articles. Hardly gets feedback even with 100,000s but went with his gut.
Made his short post series "The Scoop" from the number of likes. Decided not to do forums as he personally didn't like them. You have complete freedom on your blog/newsletter.
