I set a ring-tone from my mp3 files in the system using the contacts
application, just did that, my colleague called but it played the default music
of the system

I set a ring-tone from my mp3 files in the system using the contacts
application, just did that, my colleague called but it played the default music
of the system, goes into the contact details to modify it, change the ring-tone
but doesn't work,
Otherwise if I select one song using a file explorer like astro and set as user
ringtone it seems to work, but it changes the system wide ring-tone not for a
specific user.

Which file you want ? debugs ? logs ? ring-tones ?

In general I use the Mabilo RingTone application to gather ringtones.

I'm not sure I have the same issue. The custom ringtone SOMETIMES plays and it
works OK in the preview when you select the ringtone for the contact. It just
seems to fail when your phone is sleeping ie screen off, not charging.

Here's a link to the imperial march song:

Looks like the problem has nothing to do with phone being asleep. I got a call
when I was browsing a site and got default ringtone. Most of the time I do get
the correct ringtone for this contact.
