Add typescript and related tooling, fixes #42
Please pay close attention to a96459d, I tried my best to not change much but I still might have introduced issues here.
I left "strict" on false for now in the tsconfig, as using strict mode requires some more changes, but a follow-up issue for this would be better IMO.
