Allow a custom Thank you or Confirmation page

I wonder if it's possible to adjust the default functionality for Thank You and Confirmation pages, perhaps with a configuration setting on the block, to use either:

• default functionality (separate page)
• stay on current page

For reference, here's the default thank you page (which you get forwarded to at a URL like this: civicrm/event/register?_qf_ThankYou_display=true&qfKey=0f97c1e4a2u8r3e8c50a2e164431906d_4352)

The links to the event in the default CiviCRM thank you template link to the default CiviCRM event page (not to the Backdrop page on which the block is inserted).
