Misc changes to get module working for Triplo project #16

Triplo made a number of changes to get this module working for a client project. We're still not finished, but I'd like to merge the changes we have so far in ASAP, to get feedback and potentially get more eyes on the project.

@yorkshire-pudding - If you have time to review this, it would be great. I may be adding more changes to this PR soon.

Don't bother reviewing yet. I can't get it to work properly on a fresh site. Let me go back and chat with my team next week.
