not working for fields added to layout #3

I'm showing some node fields within the layout, with a field's block. There, I cannot set a default text for empty fields. Shouldn't it be possible?

I believe this is a bug in core. Just filled in an issue: https://github.com/backdrop/backdrop-issues/issues/6667
