I thought I was being clever with moving the edit options into the sidebar, but in some early testing with Paragraphs it seems to cause issues with Ajax (e.g. collapse, remove Paragraphs). I'm going to move that sidebar functionality into a theme setting that is marked experimental, at least for now.
