Cleanup: remove dead code

It turned out, there's dead code that never runs, either because

• It's D6 code that never even got migrated to D7
• Hooks are in use, that don't exist in Backdrop

There's probably more dead code, not even discovered yet, but removing obviously disfunctional code should make future debugging easier.
