There doesn't seem to be any chat-type contrib modules for BD yet. #230

In order to minimize potential extra work in particular for a future migration from a Drupal Commons based site to Backdrop 1.8, which chat module should we use in DC (now) to limit any potential extra migration work/headaches later?

In particular, the Shoutbox module vs. the Tribune module? I personally like Tribune better as it seems more straghtforward and being node focused, perhaps would be easier to integrate into other group-style solutions and get it properly protected through ACL/node security, but that is just a hunch, I have not checked or tested anything yet. (I am a bit puzzled why Tribune has so few reported current installs on D.o., though.) Any other such modules that are relevant?

While I am at it; has anyone been discussing the possibility of a chat module integrated with Gitter? How cool and practical (that) would (that) be..(!?)

Btw; somewhat related as to why I ask this question here:

I have tested a few unported modules by simply updating the .info file as per the documentation, and those that work (relatively) well without major hickups, I plan to post here in separate issues asking for potentially interested maintainers. I will do that with the chat module(s) too, but would like a hint of where to start to limit the time it takes.

The other modules I am currently using without proper porting are as follows: (They will be posted here in the contrib queue as separate issues shortly.)
