Award points (or badges?) to trusted users over time #16

Open jenlampton opened 7 years ago

jenlampton commented 7 years ago

As a forum user, I would like to be able to know who's answers to trust. As a member of the Backdrop community, I would like to be appreciated for my time spent in the forum.

We should award some kind of score / points / badges to people who use the forums. +5 for creating a topic +2 for adding a comment +1 for reporting spam -3 for posting spam/offensive comments +3 for having a comment selected as "the answer" +10 for becoming a forum moderator

Tech specs: TBD

User Points API

I like this idea as it always made me feel super leet on StackOverflow even when I only had like 50 points.

I think showing a user's point score on an answer helps you judge that comment/answer. I tend to look at that on StackOverflow when looking over the answers that aren't first.

For badges, you could play off of the dragon theme...you start out as a baby dragon and then level up with certain point levels upgrading your dragon. I like whimsy!

I also like the votes on StackOverflow in some sort of up/down voting system...so maybe if your answer gets 50 votes you get more points too, if up/down voting would be implemented. I made a comment on #13.

@alexfinnarn in the works; Userpoints is ported, but see https://github.com/backdrop-contrib/userpoints/issues/1. If you can figure that one out would help getting it into action sooner.

I like this idea. As a user of the forum, I don't think that it's set up very well to encourage people to answer other peoples questions. This one of several subtle things that could be done that might encourage users to participate in the forums more actively.
