Needs code review. Owen could probably figure out how to make it cleaner. Some functions need real testing. Mentioned in #67 .

Lets chat about this. Maybe you could drive me thru it? IIRC it adds the notion of spatial separation of the data points, mainly for convolutions but also for GIS adding a distance notion?
