optional labels like in uTorrent / uTorrent webui? #89

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

hello. first off, thanks so much for working on this project. i recently
moved to another seedbox provider, and now i'm on transmission.

would it be possible technically to implement labels for labeling torrents?
helps alot when you've got 200-300 torrents in the list, and some of them
you've already downloaded to your home machine, but want to keep on
seeding. without labels this list grows into a huge mess over time.

this would make things way easier for me to organize. please comment on this.

thanks so much.

i am sorry, this should be classified as 'enhancement', of course.

Don't worry about it, nobody marks them as enhancements :P

Agreed, it's a useful feature. If it were supported by the daemon, I'd
definitely add
support for this. I try to avoid storing things locally which wouldn't be
portable
between other installations of t-r-d or other RPC clients.

Actually... I just checked the transmission trac and it looks like Andras
(who's made
some great contributions to this project) made a patch for this just 12 days
ago.
I've not heard from him about it but I'm guessing he's already some way to
implementing this on the client side.

This really needs to be implemented on the daemon, not the client side :(

Since the daemon handles moving the files very gracefully wouldn't providing
the directory information accomplish the same thing? In fact, could it not
even provide better functionality than uTorrent? This could be implemented
from the client-side.

With uTorrent, labels are only semi-useful as they are just tags. If the
actual folder was a selection in the "Category Filter Panel" users would have a
powerful tool for managing the actual torrent files.

In my case, I store the torrents I have uploaded myself in a "My Seeds" folder,
the torrents I am holding for ratio purposes in other folders, and the
"Completed" folder is only used as temporary storage until the file is moved to
one of the other folders or to my HTPC. Managing those activities from remote
would be easier if the folders appeared in the "Category Filter Panel"

I think the thing I'm looking for is somewhat related to this, so I'll post
here.
When I open a torrent in my browser (Firefox) and add the torrent to TR, it
automatically starts.
In uTorrent, though, you get a prompt window which gives you a few options.
That would be nice for TR as well. The option I would like to see the most is
what category my torrent is, and after I select the category, it would send the
download to a pre-defined folder. I tell it this is a a movie, it sends it to
my Movies folder. In preferences there could be an option to create categories
and specify the destination for that particular category.

Sorry for double posting, but after I wrote my last post I went and had a look
at other Transmission interfaces. Transmission Remote GUI has something that
works similar to what I want. When I add a torrent there is an option window
that asks me, among other things, where I want to save the download. Very
convenient! I hope something similar can be added to TRD, as I would prefer it
over TRG, had TRG only had that feature...
