pre-bake: Can you build this from a host with internet, completely?

goals

• can be run from an existing pi, with no internet
  • we can write blocks or shell scripts that look for /boot/my-config to allow for dd + vim to reproduce
• can provide a view of a network
• can be understood using the least number of technologies
• can be pre-baked + configured later
• Idempotent scripts
• Unique config in /boot for easy changing

Ideal setup is something that can be built by any host system - laptop linux/macOS/windows and existing node. Something that can be introspected easy and has the least layers of translation. Build script should be idempotent, and not rely on a connected to the internet.

• Largest board support

• Simple shell scripts

• Configurable with ENV_VARIABLES

• Prebuild has not been tested

• Idempotency untested

• Cannot run via pi without internet

Would want to test building via docker with qemu-arm, and possibly add cloud-init support for community understandability

• simple gui

• hard to contribute to, both via pibakery-blocks technically, and leadership (ignoring pull requests => rewrite)

• no cli support so cannot easily build from another pi

~ somewhat hard to extend but easy to configure
