They released a UI overhaul today and it's dun broke everything my man.

It looks like Valve finally killed off custom skins for good. I noticed before that new Steam installs would no longer create the skins directory with a text file, and before that with the chat update, you knew they were doing this eventually.

At least theming seems possible still https://github.com/PhantomGamers/SFP

Not quite.

You can restore the old UI by launching Steam with -vgui as a parameter (from, say, a shortcut or the command line) or by rolling back to an earlier version of the client (but that seems needlessly more time-consuming at the moment).

The latter option is a more permanent one, though. Who knows when they'll deprecate the former and remove it completely.

Not long, apparently. It's already been removed. Only took them about a month.

Maybe Gabe will let Microsoft buy Valve, seeing as they're just going the same route as them with regards to removing user choice.

Had Steam updates disabled for years, and was forced to update twice so far due to API breaking changes. Some games wouldn't work at all, and Steam login (notably remembering login) was broken.

Currently on the April build. A few things in the new library UI are broken. Steam friend login is broken. Only a matter of time until an upgrade is forced due to something critical breaking.

Absolute garbage.

If there isn't some custom Steam client over at cs.rin.ru, then.. well, I don't know what I'll do. My Steam account is worth $34,000 and even people like me have absolutely no say in whatever Valve does.

Which one are you using from RIN?

Which one are you using from RIN?

I'm not, I just know they have, or had, some custom clients or tools for things like Steam, Uplay, Origin, Epic and whatever. Mostly basic CLI stuff like SteamLite.

I'm not in the mood to search the mess of a forum to find things right now, so that'll have to wait until my current Steam client is too broken to use anymore.
