Depth strider massively reduces launch distance underwater

I would expect the opposite result, but using the launch spell underwater while wearing depth strider boots results in a shorter distance traveled than without boots

Edit, I believe this happens in vanilla too when using the riptide enchantment, so maybe it cannot be fixed?
