yaml.scanner.ScannerError: while scanning for the next token #2

I get a scanner error when calling panopy, both using your sample panopy.templates and with my own customised one. The error is:

yaml.scanner.ScannerError: while scanning for the next token
found character '%' that cannot start any token
  in "/Users/bridge/.pandoc/panopy.templates", line 7, column 8

panopy doesn't seem to like the % sign...
