Not sure this is related, but I am getting the same error when trying to flash a xz file from local disk:
Running balenaEtcher-1.19.21-x64.AppImage
on ArchLinux.
Same issue as #4150 ?

Not receiving the error message "/home/jfac/Downloads/linuxmint-21.3-xfce-64bit.iso: Something went wrong." The function (0,h.requestMetadata) is not defined.

Right click on the balenaEtcher.exe file; and click on test compatibility. After that run the test compatibility check. After running that I applied the fixes it recommended and it worked for me. Hope that helps.
