Does this project not use the generic linux-firmware recipes at all? I see mcu-fw and sst-fw but nothing else which would explain why the compression step isn't running.

@klutchell the edison is special in that it does not build a balenaos-img but a hddimg image type - I think I have addressed the update in https://github.com/balena-os/balena-edison/pull/175
