This recipe is taken from meta-openembedded commit f240c5cecf3d7ee75d5ec1ece4c412c94434a879 with the only changes being that we removed from it the init.d, iwd, and dhcpcd daemon configurations which are not used by us.

I am also going to do a ModemManager upgrade. Shall it be included in the same PR with the minor Change-type or is it ok to create a different PR for the MM update with another minor Change-type?

hey @floion it's probably best to do it all together in the same PR with a minor change-type given that you will only need to test once.
