A lot of changes have happened to make the code CI/CD compliant, and accordingly fulfills some of the reviewers request for JOSS publication. The PR serves to implement those changes to the develop branch so that it has the most recent changes (i.e. doesn't clash with main), and so that we can test the CI/CD for PRs.
