When connecting to a computer you need the IP address. Computer names such 
as "JohnsPC" cannot be entered, as it will report a "Hostname not found" 
error. Can a function be added to connect to computer names as well as IP 
addresses.

That should work.  You can enter any DNS resolvable hostname.
Make sure you can ping that host before trying to connect.
Or add that name to you /etc/hosts file.
