It claims if plot = TRUE, a side effect will be plotting, but plot = TRUE gets packaged into the ... argument, causing an error, because there is no plot argument for the function.

i don't see this claim in the doc, are you referring to the CRAN version of the package?

I was. I have checked this version, and it no longer makes such a claim. I suppose this has many improvements, which I don't get from CRAN.
