Compatibility bw old version and new version #2300

Hey everyone,

I work with GanttProject on two computers, my personal one and the one from work. I have downloaded the new version of GanttProject on my personal computer but can't manage to do this on my work computer (because rights access, something like this).

I modified my schedule on my personal computer (so new GanttProject) and when I tried to open it on my work computer (old ganttproject), the task list appears blank.

What should I do ? I can't find another software, yours is the best free software that I could find.

RE I saw you have another topic with the same kind of problem but I understand nothing, software noobie here hehe.

As far as I can see from the screenshot, the "old" GanttProject is really old, perhaps something like 2.8.X Although we try to maintain backward compatibility, it is not very likely that files produced with GP 3+ will be readable with no issues GP 2.8

What's the matter with installing GP 3.2 on the work computer?

Thanks for the answer ! I work in nuclear industry and it is impossible to ask the rights while downloading something if it is asked. Yes, it must be something like two years that I downloaded it on my work computer, I don't understant why I could at that moment and not now.

So, the only solution is to download the recent version on my work computer ?

The best solution is to use reasonably similar versions. If you share the project file, I can look at it and see if it is possible to fix the file so that it could be opened with GP 2.8, however, in the long term, you'd better stick to compatible versions.

FWIW, technically you can use GanttProject on your work computer, even if you have no administrator privileges. I didn't try, but chances are that simple copying of GanttProject 3.2 folder from your home computer to a flash card/USB drive will make it working on your work computer.
