Invalid SSL certificates cause application to hang #701

OS: Tested on Windows XP and Xubuntu 14.10
Affected version: 0.17.3

Steps to reproduce:
Open an webpage with an invalid SSL certificate in the browser.

Expected output:
The application should show an error message. (Like it does in version 0.17.2)

What happens instead:
The application becomes non-responsive.
