How do I connect to altwfc? #207

Closed Moonboy65 closed 5 years ago

Moonboy65 commented 9 years ago

I want to connect to altwfc with Pokémon Platinum (cartridge/emulator) so that I can trade pokémon but i can't find any access points. How do I fix that?

ghost commented 9 years ago

Hm. What system are you using to find the access points?

Moonboy65 commented 9 years ago

Nintendo DS, i have it in front of me along with my DSi

ghost commented 9 years ago

Do you know what type of security your router has? Nintendo DS Systems only support open wifi networks and WEP Protected Networks. WPA or WPA2 won't work since the DS's wifi card only recognizes those, since the DS released before WPA & WPA2 even existed.

Moonboy65 commented 9 years ago

it uses WEP i believe

Moonboy65 commented 9 years ago

but here's the thing, my DS doesn't recognize the router even if I put the information correctly

ghost commented 9 years ago

I see. When it does the connection test, or when you first search for networks?

Moonboy65 commented 9 years ago

both

ghost commented 9 years ago

Okay. Try deleting your configuration ID thing from the settings since it may be from when WFC was still up.

ghost commented 9 years ago

I'm not 100% sure, but it may help solve the problem

Moonboy65 commented 9 years ago

i tried doing that but the button is grayed out

Moonboy65 commented 9 years ago

and my Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection ID is blank too

ghost commented 9 years ago

Yeah. You need to connect online for that to appear. :/ Idk what to do then. Sorry, but I don't really know much about troubleshooting for DS. I mainly play Wii & 3DS, and some Wii U games.

Moonboy65 commented 9 years ago

the emulator version doesn't work either

ghost commented 9 years ago

Hm... Weird. I know it's not the server itself since I can connect to altwfc via MKW. Plus the connection test in the Wii Settings works perfectly okay when I test the connection for my altwfc configuration.

ghost commented 9 years ago

However, if you look at issue #208, it may be the fact that some games don't have their matchmaking working properly. But I doubt that would be the case....

Check if the encryption setting on the router is on wep or no encryption How to change the encryption on the router varies. But to make sure you can esaly get on try setting no encryption for however long you use it. (For ds) And for the Wii make sure you change the DNS and use brainslug for disc and orcania for installed games.

nah, i'm good

AltWFC is a bad idea. This server is the playground of hackers. Many Wii's has been bricked in there due to hackers. This is just a warning. Execpt if you willing to risk your console's life.

mm201 commented 2 months ago

(^ That was a 9 year necro.)

Wiimmfi also happens to be closed source. When their team loses interest or money, altwfc will become the only way of playing NWFC games online. It's about preservation.

Moreover, the bug isn't related to the server per se but the SDKs (GameSpy/Nintendo) used by vulnerable Nintendo online games. Similar RCE bugs are/were possible on 3DS, WiiU and Switch. However, these games/consoles might have received security patches through online updates.

The only way to patch these games on Wii would be to patch their game code on the game/ISO directly, using a RCE exploit or a cheat code such as https://mariokartwii.com/showthread.php?tid=1854
