Netplay Disconnection #263

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Which resolution are you using? (important!)
1280X960

Does this bug appear at other resolutions?
Yes

What steps will reproduce the problem?
When trying to connect to netplay in Super Melee (after ensuring proper
configuration of routers and firewalls), upon attempting connection, a message
flashes at the bottom of the screen in green text that says "change the control
method to disconnect." This message appears VERY briefly (to the point that I
needed to videotape it and search frame by frame to read it), and then a
message appears and stays that says "Top (or bottom) player connection closed."

Me and my prospective opponent decided to try an earlier version of the game to
verify that it wasn't a connection issue on our and and it worked fine.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I am currently using "v0.7.0 + HD Mod BETA - SVN r1338"

Don't know if helps, but I can verify that I also have this problem. Same
version as posted above, r1338.

Resolution:
320x240 + stretch 320 -> 640x480, no scalar.

Figured it would be useful to include the stderr.txt as well from my most
recent attempt. I tried matching my friend's graphics settings for this one -
High res 1280x960 windowed.

Still failed across 2 attempts; Here's an excerpt of what appears to be the
relevant portion of the log:

We haven't had the opportunity to test netplay very much. Well, almost not at
all. Definitely should try to test this.

Hmm. At least on 1280x960 my network play against my other computer worked
well. The connection formed almost instantly and everything worked like a charm.

I played beta versions r1338 vs r1363.

The computers are in the same home network so it wasn't over the vastness of
the internet though.

Next I'll try r1363 vs r1363, also on different resolutions.

Ok.

What is certain is that you must have the same resolutions on both ends.
playing 1280x960 vs 640x480 or 640x480 vs 320x240 doesn't work.

Other than that, my tests worked well. 1280x960 against another computer on
1280x960 plays beautifully.

Making the different resolutions work against one another would be such an
anormous undertaking that regretfully we will not pursue it. Sorry!

Sir, a friend and I have been trying the exact same things, the issue is not
fixed, and we ARE playing over LAN.

Same svn, same version.

We get the same message, and NOTHING works. The problem is also related to UQM
HD verified, UQM works as it should.

Hi, do you have the same resolution settings on both computers?

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Yes we do Jakko. Both of us play on 1280 x 960.

I happened to come across this thread, so we also tried 640x480 on both
computers, to no avail.

Also, UQM HD requires both of our computers to start it in Administrator mode
not to encounter problems.

Is there any progress made on this issue? Me and a friend can only play the
non-HD original version, the Beta (or older alpha) of the HD disconnects as
soon as the games connect. Same resolution, same settings, no firewall or
router issues.

Hi. Having played the original UQM, I recently upgraded to UQM HD version for
supermelee. Encountered the same problem of instant disconnect after initiating
netplay connection. This doesn't happen on UQM, with the exact same steps.
Also, my version of UQM HD also required admin mode to start. Does this play a
part in the issue? Hope to get some answers, great game. Cheers!
