Hello, after upgrade from catalina no major problem. Except that it is impossible to start in safe mode (crossed out circle then extinction). MacBook pro 13 "mid 2012.

Assuming you're telling about this:

  1. Turn on your Mac again (in Normal Mode) after 30 seconds of waiting.
  2. Download this file.
  3. Extract the ZIP file.
  4. With Terminal opened, execute the following command (Warning: Don't use Finder to do this):
    sudo mv <path_to>/PlatformSupport.plist /System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist
  5. Restart your Mac (to Normal Mode) for the changes to take effect.
  6. Try booting into Safe Mode.

What about just booting into the EFI Boot? That's much easier.

nanoden99 commented 3 years ago

Thanks a lot for your help . It worked. However, I had to put the container system in read / write before executing the command.

Brendianer commented 3 years ago

@nanoden99: how do I set the system to read/write?

ghost commented 3 years ago

Just boot into the EFI Boot. You should never get rid of that drive to begin with, so might as well just use it.

@BenSova Could I get further clarification on this? The EFI boot drive from the installer shuts the computer down when selected. The "Install Big Sur" drive does not allow me to enable Safe Mode or move the above mentioned file by @seyoon20087 . How do we get Safe Mode back for troubleshooting purposes?
