Help undoing install on Mid-2010 15” MBP? #193

Totally my fault for misreading the clear instructions that a mid-2010 15” MacBook Pro is NOT supported, but now stuck unable to install any OS and begging for help.

I followed the instructions through to installation, but the MBP would not finish booting when install completed. I have since tried to install High Sierra from internet recovery, as well as a patched Catalina, but neither will work. Laptop was humming along perfectly before I tried the Big Sur install, so I’m wondering if I’ve done something to firmware that is causing the trouble. I have attempted to install the latest official EFI and SMC firmwares, and I’ve reset NVRAM and SMC, but this laptop just will NOT boot from the HDD that it was happily booting from Wednesday (a High Sierra install that I have not touched), nor will it allow a successful installation of High Sierra or Catalina (tried APFS and HFS+ both with GUID).

Any ideas?
