InstallAssistant.pkg download link (updated for 11.7.3) #239

I’m trying to get big sur on my imac late 2013 model and I can’t seem to find the Big sur DMG file anywhere. Can anyone please help?

This reminds me that I need to update that part of the readme. I'll update it before the next patcher release.

These are Apple's official instructions for downloading previous macOS releases, under the section "Or use the App Store or your browser". However, I would not be surprised if this fails on Macs that need a patcher (and I haven't tried it in a while). It might work, though! EDIT: This doesn't work on an unsupported Mac in High Sierra: "We could not complete your purchase. This version of macOS 11.7.1 cannot be installed on this computer."

There's a command-line equivalent, for example: softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 11.7.1 This might possibly work on High Sierra and later, or it might fail with an error like Update not found. EDIT: This actually doesn't work on High Sierra; maybe it was added in Mojave or Catalina.

The method I've been using for myself lately is gibMacOS. Once it does the download, install InstallAssistant.pkg and that will place the Big Sur installer in your Applications folder.

If you absolutely need a dmg instead of a pkg for some reason, you could use installinstallmacos. My personal experience is that gibMacOS is usually easier to get up and running, and with Big Sur and later I personally don't see the point of creating a dmg instead of just storing InstallAssistant.pkg. However, it's a neat tool for downloading and storing High Sierra, Mojave, and Catalina installers.

Also, here's the download link for the Big Sur 11.7.1 InstallAssistant.pkg, which is the current release as of this writing. Edited to add: This link downloads from Apple's servers.

Thanks for remembering me. I will give it a go in January when I begin to do my taxes in TurboTax. This is the only reason I use Mac OS. Otherwise, I'm a Google Chrome user.

Hi Barry, Ever since I upgraded to Big Sur from Catalina (mac mini late 2012), the Music app gives me this error - You do not have permission to open the application “Music”. When I click on Get Info, my name does not appear as admin. This has never happened before. (Backstory - I bought this Mac mini from another person off eBay and he didn't wipe everything clean because I can't upgrade Photos or GarageBand either.)

I've been on YouTube and watching help videos after searching "You do not have permission to open the application “Music” but get nowhere. I'm about to give up on this Mac. The only reason I keep it around is to run TurboTax.

Anyway do you have any suggestions regarding my "no permission" problem? Peter Text or call for a quicker response. 971-570-1284

I don't know how it happened but I can open Music. I started to do a Recovery and then bailed and restarted and that was it. I don't if anybody else has had this problem but just in case there is you can suggest what I did.
