also update composer.json to force >= 5.4.24 which includes many security fixes.

I'm glad to see there is progress going on here, I will be finally able to get back to this soon. I seen this PR and I was wondering about the reasons for such a drastic decision of deprecating PHP 5.3 in favour of 5.5. Also shouldn't comporser force 5.5 due to the nature of the PR?

We are in the process of wrangling this repo back into being officially support which includes reorganizing the repo and refactoring the lib. Since this PR doesn't include changes to the code, I am going to close it. Ping me if you have any questions.
