I am unlikely to put any real effort into sphinx-material. I would be happy if someone wanted to take it over. If someone wanted to do this, I could arrange to pass the PyPI project over, and we could migrate the repository to a project account, where you can be made the owner.
If you are considering this these for a new project, I would recommend looking at sphinx-immaterial instead. I use it for all of my projects, and it is actively maintained.
