If just one sub genre is chosen (e.g. Action RPG) after a Gamelist Update it's still just the sub genre in the game's metadata. But if two or more sub genres are chosen (e.g. Action RPG and Run Jump Scrolling) the parent genres are activated from a Gamelist Update (Roleplaying Games and Platformer). Maybe the second one is the intended behaviour but it is at least inconsistend.
Detailed reproduction steps
Chose just one sub genre for a game
Game List Update
-=> No change in genre
Select a second sub genre for the game
Game List Update
=> Both parent genres are activated
