kodi eats all the ram #5568

i'm (currently) running the latest beta v33 on a raspberry pi 3. Everytime i try to watch anything in kodi, the system becomes unresponsive and then just hangs. the rpi3 has 1024MB of ram. from the ssh console i can watch the ram getting filled completely. most of the time i can type in a 'reboot' and then wait a few minutes and it'll do that. but that makes kodi completely unusable. i already tried lowering the vram-split without success. the additional space also gets filled up.

anything i can do? is this a known problem of kodi 19? i had another retro-game solution with kodi 18 running before. do other people have this problem, too?

EDIT: LibreELEC works and uses less than 400MB of RAM.

you can try to free some ram if you use batocera-es-swissknife --kodi via SSH This helped me a lot with RASPI 3A+ that is only equipped with 512MB RAM But I think OpenELEC did not bring out a new version because KODI19 is unstable with 64bit version (For Pi1/2/3 at least) ;(

i'll try it but i don't think that'll do it for me. practically every video makes kodi freeze up and i'd like to not closely watch the ram usage and execute ssh-commands while doing recreational retrogaming and watching tv in the evening ;-)

thanks for the info! i'll try and read up on the Kodi 19 OpenELEC / RPI3 situation and then close this issue if the workarounds don't work. i hope this will get fixed someday. i'm not eager to go back to kodi 18, either.
