[v37] [x86_64] No video after splash video on Radeon RX6600 #9094

Closed jmorrow25 closed 1 year ago

Opened new issue at suggestion of @dmanlfc.

On v37-x86_64 (06-17-2023), upon boot the splash image will show, then the splash video will play, then the hdmi output just dies. Not even a keep-alive signal. Batocera appears to be functional, albeit without video or audio. SSH and SMB are both accessible from the network. My previous attempts to troubleshoot can be seen here.

now try v38 beta test here - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1_bqmR7CoZ78i7DolYt5b-RRqB5c-LPyN?usp=drive_link

follow the manual upgrade instructions in the readme. this is not data destructive & you can go back to v36 easily.

jmorrow25 commented 1 year ago

No luck still. I did, however, just flash the full image. I haven't done much with 36 so I was fine wiping it. Is that okay? Or is it absolutely necessary to do the manual upgrade?

no clean install is good too. can you run via ssh 'batocera-support' & drop me the resulting file here? - thanks.

Also, something new happened. I heard music while I was down away from the pc. When I went back in the room, the menu music was playing and my TV displayed the following 20230624_002658 So I guess the audio randomly started to get through, but not the video.

can you set es.resolution=3840x2160.60.00 in batocera-boot.conf and reboot please?

jmorrow25 commented 1 year ago

Still nothing.

dmanlfc commented 1 year ago

set global.videooutput="HDMI-0" in /userdata/system/batocera.conf - does that help?

dmanlfc commented 1 year ago

@jmorrow25 ping me on Discord it will be quicker - https://discord.gg/4ym6UWr5

It did not help. But like I said earlier, the audio intermittently came through earlier and I was also able to get that distorted video in previous troubleshooting attempts, so I feel like the output device is set properly.

Honestly I feel like it's a Mesa issue. Is the v38 img still using the 23.1.0 dev build? I read a whole lot of ppl having crazy issues on it with amd cards with fix by rollback or upgrade to 23.1.1, though most of them were on much older cards or apus.

I joined the discord but am off the sleep for the night and won't be available tomorrow as it's my birthday and I'll be out but if you have any ideas I'll try them when I get back.

dmanlfc commented 1 year ago

yeah i rolled back in a previous test & the issue was apparently the same... ping me when you're online & happy birthday for tomoz

dmanlfc commented 1 year ago

try the latest beta (same share). don't run off a usb, do the upgrade

jmorrow25 commented 1 year ago

That seems to have done the trick! Everything appears to be functioning as intended now. I assume this a normal beta build that is probably stable enough to stay on?

BTW, thanks for the birthday wishes and for your assistance with this. You guys sure do work fast for people (who I assume are) working for free.

Edit: was having an issue with xemu on 36, but it was definitely a Mesa issue. 2d assets were cut diagonally making text and menus unreadable in some games. Issue is gone now. 2-for-1.

dmanlfc commented 1 year ago

@jmorrow25 stay with that build or use the v38 future updated butterfly builds going forward until v38 is final.
