suggest following the Japanese plugin which uses ctrl-g

Probably the user should be able to configure what fields are auto-regenerated by the keypress.

How about some little icons in the same place as those in pinyin toolkit preferences that regenerate that field when clicked on. We could number them and use a ctrl-alt-1/f1 combination for them as well.
