Two bugs were observed in the wild:

Choose parent map will first reset to actual parent map, only upon second selection the selection persists
When adding area without PDF, a PDF is automatically selected.
PDFs cannot be removed (not a bug see #480)

Cannot reproduce issues. Both feel like state issues that is not properly cleaned up. User was on safari, hence maybe the issue only happens there.

Can confirm the second point (unable to add areas without pdfs) is no longer an issue though.
