Hybrid mode bug black screen with blinking underscore #75

Open Carlos-SE opened 1 year ago

Carlos-SE commented 1 year ago

System info:

Steps to reproduce

  1. Change from any other mode to hybrid
  2. Reboot

Temporary "fix"

Execute sudo envycontrol --reset. After reboot, command envycontrol -q returns hybrid mode but if I execute sudo envycontrol -s hybrid the bug triggers again

bayasdev commented 1 year ago

Can you get into GDM or is it straight not giving video output?

Carlos-SE commented 1 year ago

Straight not giving video output

Did you enable the RTD3 option?

Did you enable the RTD3 option?

I tried with that option enabled and disabled. Getting the same result in both scenarios

Try downgrading your Nvidia drivers, on my setup I'm experiencing black screens and freezes since 525.78 on hybrid mode after their failed attempt to fix the high CPU usage problem.

Maybe your issue is also related to new Nvidia drivers.

PD: The only thing envycontrol touches on hybrid mode is enabling modeset and NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations (required for Wayland under Gnome).

I have installed the version 525.60.11 which isn't the newest.

@Carlos-SE are you still experiencing this problem?

Carlos-SE commented 1 year ago

Yes. Just upgraded envycontrol and still getting the same problem

@Carlos-SE when the black screen problem happens can you access a TTY?

If so please check the output of sudo dmesg | grep nvidia, looks like a driver related problem to me

@Carlos-SE do you have an external screen connected?

Also try reinstalling Nvidia drivers and upgrading to a newer kernel

Yes I do have an external screen

If you disconnect the external screen does GDM start?

Carlos-SE commented 1 year ago

It doesn't

bayasdev commented 1 year ago

Have you tried enabling the Nvidia suspend services as the project's README says?
