This has long stayed in the back of my mind.

It would be easily done by adding the colorbar as a separate element. For example, predictions could have their colorbar, model differences would have their own, etc, and depending on the choice, the colorbar would update with the appropriate one.

If you have a better alternative, let me know :D.
