Hi Thanks for this useful tool. I just wonder if it is possible to have the choice to select an alternative directory instead of the default backup path, and also an option for scheduling backups. appreciate your efforts...

Hello !

Thank you for testing my program !

Alternative directory : Perhaps in a future version. Scheduled backup : As Firefox and/or Thunderbird must be closed to do a proper backup, there is a risk the backup aborts if they are running when the sckeduled time arise.

As Firefox profile's management scheme and files change frequently, it can be hasardous to restore an old profile backup on a new profile version. I'm not sure it is pertinent to continue the development of the program due to the risk of important data corruption...

Thanks for thinking about the directory option. You are also right about the interference Firefox could have while running on the process of backup, but maybe foxbird can ALERT the user or simply ABORT the whole process in such a case (Anyways, scheduling is not that necessary after all) But, I hope you continue maintaining the project as backing up the whole profile folder REGULARLY and having several RECENT backups as well, would lower the chance of incompatible files and certainly makes this and other similar projects valuable for me and those other users whose browsers are like treasure chest to them. I have been using MozBackup for years and I do feel it needs to be replaced with a fresh and sophisticated tool.

Currently, Foxbirdbackup alerts the user if Firefox / Thunderbird is running and the backup is not possible. Also, if you cannot choose the backup directory, you can export a selected backup to any directory. Use the Restore tab and select a backup and check the "Export" radio button. You can also import a backup from another directory, which is useful to transfer profiles between machines.

Foxbirdbackup does not intent to replace a general backup of critical data on the machine. It is a good practice to add Appdata folder to Documents, Images etc. backup.
