Should it be possible to construct an FM URI without a PI Code? #2

With GCC, PI and Frequency for Capital London:

fm:ce1.c479.09580

With no frequency (any frequency broadcasting Radio 4 in UK):

fm:ce1.c204.*

Just tuning into 87.7, with no PI Code or country code:

fm:08770

I dislike this idea primarily for the fact it's more likely than not to be an incorrect reference to a service, given the relatively small coverage area of an FM transmitter compared to a global addressing standard.

It would certainly make a poor identifier, but my thinking was that the FM scheme might have broader use-cases and could be used to just trigger a FM tuner to tune to a specific frequency.

In this scenario, the RDS PI Code might not be known, or may not exist.

Ah, on the basis that we're aiming for a wider remit, yes I can see the value. Thanks for clarifying.
