[Idea] IceWM ready for small handheld devices and power-constrained systems as well as small screens? #765

So this is mostly an idea, not really necessary to keep it open. Just to get gijsbers' opinion.

Lately I was watching this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntk8ZABq7IY

This is kind of about retro-computers to some extent.

The guy was installing Linux on a tablet PC from 2004. If gijsbers and others have time to watch the video (14:17 seconds), or skip through it, I think it is worth to watch it at the least for the main parts.

So the guy who created the video was able to install debian on it. At first he used GNOME3, then mate-desktop but it was still not ideal.

He did not test for icewm, probably because he did not know icewm, or, and this is the other thing, perhaps icewm may not be suited for small handheld devices.

I tend to use icewm for many reasons, even on faster computers. I hate delays, and IceWM is simply so much faster than gnome3, kde, and even mate-desktop.

So the question is ... would icewm work on a small handheld device? I think one thing that icewm may need may be to have icons placeable on the desktop, so that people can click on it. Yes, there is the start menu on the bottom left, but I think on a small handheld device a standalone icon may be easier. Does IceWM allow for simple icons?

But this is not the only thing. He went to the mate-desktop preferences and tried to adjust the brightness, and nothing changed even though he was using a slider. Does IceWM allow for a simple slider? Does it allow for brightness changes? I am not sure.

Anyway, this is mostly an Idea, not sure if this is within the scope of IceWM. I get that IceWM isn't a DE, so we can not expect it to offer features a DE would. But I am also thinking, things such as desktop icons, or even just a simple slider for brightness on a small handheld device, I think it would be nice if iceWM would allow for that. Right now I don't know if IceWM supports any percentage values. In Settings we usually have binary toggles, e. g. feature on/off, and that black dot on the left side if a feature is turned "on". Anyway - as said this was just an idea I have, no need to keep this "feature issue" open. :)
