im stuck at step 3.

  1. Update STEAM_USERDATA at the top of nonsteam.py manually to be the location of your Steam profile's userdata directory, including your Steam ID. <<< how do i put my steam userdata "ON TOP OF" nonsteam.py?? do i do something inside of the file of nonsteam.py? do i create a file on top of this nonsteam.py file?

Sorry, but this extension is no longer maintained and is not compatible with the current version of Playnite.

I now use @darklinkpower's Special K Helper Playnite add-on. The extension has a mode to force the Steam overlay in all games. It works quite differently than this extension, it injects a different overlay called Special K into the game, which is what can force the Steam overlay. The Special K Helper just makes it easy to use from inside Playnite. If you have any trouble setting it up, I'd recommend reaching out on the Playnite Discord, or I can try to help here.

Of course, it's also still possible to manually set up the Steam overlay for individual games in your Playnite library by adding them manually as "non-steam shortcuts" inside Steam. Then make a desktop shortcut, and copy it's steam://... URL into a Playnite play action for a game. You can then delete the desktop shortcut. That process is pretty tedious to do for each game, which is why this playnite-non-steam-shortcuts automated that process.
