Created some notes around restrictions that should help distill the conversation and decisions so far.

Pasted notes:

Restrictions/Holds in our app

Holds are used to flag accounts and individuals for a variety of reasons. Holds can prevent further funding being disbursed, prevent new applications being created or a combination of both. We also need to account for some restrictions that act as warnings (ex. 1 strike out of 2 in the case of a full time student who does not successfully complete their studies).

Epics

Key Decisions Made

MVP

Future:

  1. Ministry Staff will review new holds sorted by importance and approve incoming change reports (ex. scholastic update from institution)
    1. Verification
    2. Academic
    3. Financial
    4. Legacy (Shown when an account with a legacy restriction first logs in)
    5. Federal Holds (View new ones)
  2. Add more granularity to each restriction:
    • Restrict all future applications until resolved
    • Restrict future Full-time/Part-time applications only
    • Restrict future disbursements for particular
    • Restrict ALL funding

Post MVP we need to look at how holds:

What holds will effect:

Restrictions are created at the account level currently. Stops everything from moving forward wherever the student is in their process.

Hold categories

We may simplify further by only having Provincial / Federal / StudentAidBC Holds

Untitled

Hold States

Legacy is anything that was culled out of the list from the business area but is currently active on an account.

How we will handle holds in the system

Students

The student experience for holds simply puts an alert on all pages of the app when active. The alert will let the student know that this is an active hold on their account and the restrictions this may have on their account. We will point the user to contact either SABC for Provincial Holds or National Student Loans Service Centre for federal holds.

Institutions (future)

The institution experience for holds simply puts an alert on all pages of the app when active. The alert will let the institution know that this is an active hold on their account and the restrictions this may have on their account. We will point the user to contact SABC for more information

Ministry (future)

The app simplifies holds by simply telling students and institutions when they have an active hold on their account. When ministry staff view a students account in their branch of the app they will need to decipher Hold Code , Hold Description, Hold Type, Hold Category

Ministry staff will then have the ability to edit holds and remove them.

Untitled

How holds get added to accounts

Holds can be added manually, added automatically through scenarios in our app, or syncs from Federal sources (National Student Loans Service Centre).
