From the Canadian federal government's taxonomy site the 19 subjects are:
These are implemented in the federal Open Government Portal.
Alberta's open data portal has 29 'Topics' instead of Subjects - and they do not match the federal 'Subjects'.
BCGOV web content taxonomy - has 15 subjects - was based on the Canadian federal subjects - excludes some (Form Descriptors, Military, Persons) and combines others (Arts and History): Agriculture Arts and History Economics and Industry Education and Training Government and Politics Health and Safety Information and Communications Labour Languages Law and Legislation Nature and Environment Processes Science and Technology Society and Culture Transport
While it may be beneficial to apply BCGov web content subject categories to digital resources for various reasons - and replace Sectors - more investigation of how cross jurisdictional -federated search with Canada and the other provinces would work is necessary. One simple fix would be to apply duplicate GovCanada subjects where a BCGov combination subject is present.
We would like to replace the sectors categories with the 19 subjects listed above to bring us inline with the Canadian Govs taxonomy. @gjlawran what do you mean by 'One simple fix would be to apply duplicate GovCanada subjects where a BCGov combination subject is present.'? The BCGov has 'Arts and History' while the GovCanada has 'Arts, Music, Literature' and 'History and Archaeology'
To enable federation of search across jurisdictions and consistency with BC Government web content management information architecture the catalogue should consider the replacement of the sector classification with subjects.
