The question was raised: This made me wonder if an “indicator for BCGW layers available to consume in AGO” is on the list for catalogue enhancements. Currently there is no way to explicitly know that a layer is available as a map service in AGO .
I responded:
Right now there is a really strange relationship between the types of resources indicated in the dataset line (the “labels”)
and the types of resources themselves:
I suggest that the
Metadata descriptions are loaded from the catalogue into AGOL for registered MPCM layers that have feature classes with metadata records. These metadata record are missing any link or reference to the fact that they have been loaded as items in ArcGis Online....
The distribution team will be modifying the job that loads metadata into AGO and will add links to the AGO item as a resource in the metadata. They will need to set an appropriate type:
arcgis_online_item
