SBC Connect approved. Next step: Need to finalize the URL and get approval before I submit the form to GDX. My recommendation would be servicebc.ca or onebc.ca. Other options noted below.
Options to consider: Should we create a "larger" landing page for servicebc.ca. ? We should include things like IDIM and the Call Center as SBC service offerings? Also onebc.ca can be used not onebc.com as that is already owned elsewhere, we have our API discussion forum on onebc.ca now.
To use servicbc.ca, some next steps that come to mind are: • change the redirect from the gov static website so the url does not go to servicebc.ca. • We could add a link from https://www.bcregistry.gov.bc.ca/ to go to the static SBC site. • Once this is ready, we could ask Sheila to communicate this change for awareness in her next update or something. • I could see if the static site for SBC could get another vanity url too, if needed.
Other options: connectbc.online
Or maybe: GoBC.app GetSBC SBCnow BC.support SBC.win
Notes from GDX...to summarize: they are not suggesting we re-brand.. If we push forward, we will need to make some decisions regarding our existing brands. Do we keep BC Registry Services? We have to keep BC OnLine because it's legislated.
I submitted a request back in Oct for OneBC before it was actually approved.
From Tara Kerner
I am reviewing the request you submitted for a new mark: OneBC. I do have some questions:
There are standards and best practices that are structured within the BC Brand House (and all the logos that fall under that). I am looking for as much info as possible so I can help recommend the best solution that will still align BC Identity standards.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Hello, Thank you for your note. Below are the answers to your questions. I’d also be more than happy to meet to discuss as well. 😊
We have over 1 million registered entities and approximately 50K users.
The duration for this brand is for it start immediately and for the life of the application (or until someone wants to change it).
Research was completed on the brand and name of our application and a short list of names was created. We socialized these names with our organization and the leadership team and the preference was SBC Connect but would consider Service BC Connect. We actually wanted to discuss “SBC” vs “Service BC” with someone as we weren’t sure if we should also use the Service BC logo in our app or just this brand. If it was recommended to use the Service BC logo, then the preference would be SBC Connect.
Application Program Interface (API) are messengers that relay information back and forth between different applications and servers. API’s enable you to easily and efficiently interact with the interface and request data or specific actions from a government online application. Here are some examples of government API’s.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or if you would like to meet to discuss.
Thanks, Trish

HI! Jennifer forwarded me your form and document for review and sign-off.
I have some suggestions and questions.
In your supporting documentation I think it would be helpful to include an estimate of how many people/businesses use the services. And in the form, for duration, you have “unknown”. Instead of “unknown” do you have a start date and “for the next xx years”? I’m assuming given the scope of the project that you’re looking for at least 5 or 10 years? Maybe longer?
Also, in the text below, I highlighted in yellow terms and acronyms that need further explanation. I have no idea what an “API” is.
And, I’m concerned about the proposed name of “SBC Connect” What kind of process did you use to come up with it? Why not “Service BC Connect”/”Service BC Connects”? Google searches on “SBC Connect” turn up gaming conferences, Session Border Controllers and Saskatoon Bible College. I’m also concerned about potential confusion with the Connecting BC program which funds high-speed internet access to remote communities.
Let me know if it’s easier to set up a quick call to discuss.
Thanks,

Application for new Mark Development - SBC Connect
Brief description, including purpose, goals and related policy or legislation:
A brand is needed for the new Service BC - BC Registries and Online Services modernized application. The SBC Connect brand that is being recommended has been endorsed and approved at Service BC - BC Registries and Online Services.
SBC Connect represents a digital space that connects people, businesses and other areas of government with many different digital services.
For example: • A digital platform used to launch and enable other government services, that helps connect the journey for British Columbians, making it easier to access and manage one or more government services. E.g., Personal Property, Manufactured Homes, Business Registry, Court Services, BC Assessment, etc. • API services and published API’s - including a gateway with authentication, accounts, payment, network protection, publishing services, proxy services and mocking services; along with many API’s (e.g., OrgBook, Pay, Business, Search, etc.) • Service Catalogue, order history payment and financial services
All of the work underway at Registries ties in and supports the BC Government Digital Plan. We are actively promoting the use of our common components that can be accessed and leveraged from this new digital platform, (e.g., API Services, account management, queue/workflow management, and more.)
Background For background regarding “BC Registry Services” and “BC OnLine”: BC Registry Services was the former branch name before becoming BC Registries and Online Services. BC OnLine is tied to a mainframe application, which is over 30 years old and will be decommissioned soon. These names cannot be used for this new application as we are more than “just a Registry” and BC Online is completely different from what the new modernized service provides today and will provide in the future.
Purpose/Goals: • We want people to associate this application name/brand to a new more modern way that can be trusted by British Columbians to easily access government services. • The vision for this online platform includes expanding to other government agencies, so they can launch their products/service from this platform, so the brand needs to reflect that. • It is felt that using “Online” in the name is redundant and outdated (it made sense 30 years ago when many things were mainly on paper) • The brand needs to represent everything we are doing today and also supports how we will continue to enable other partners, interested parties and government agencies in the future. • We want to avoid confusion with users and other interested parties - as it does not have a name today and we are simply calling it the ‘new application’ then we describe it to people. • We can’t call it BC OnLine as this is a stand-alone application that still exists and is used for some services and will eventually be decommissioned. • We also require a short url - similar to https://www.tranbc.ca/ FYI, there’s a separate process to request a short URL.
Why is a new mark necessary for this initiative? Are there overlapping or duplicate government initiatives?
We require a brand that represents a digital space that connects people, businesses and other areas of government with many different digital services.
We are not aware of any other initiatives.
Does the new mark replace, or make obsolete, an existing mark? SBC Connect is a new application which replaced the online services available that were once available on many legacy applications, including BC OnLine, Address Change BC, Corporate Online, and other internal and external applications.
Will the new mark accompany another mark or brand logo? No, this will be a stand alone mark for the application but it is an application name, so it’s possible that our division and branch or other application names may be referenced, in some materials. The SBC Connect logo would primarily only be used in the application or in documents that support the use of the application.
Budget: Can you please let us know what the cost is for this service?
